Hispanic Heritage Month began in 1968 to celebrate the contributions, histories and cultures of American citizens of Hispanic origin. The yearly month-long series of events begins on September 15 and ends on October 15. I like to do my small part on this blog and across social media by hosting the Hollywood’s Hispanic Heritage Blogathon, which kicks off its fourth incarnation with this announcement. I’m excited to continue this tradition and hope you can join me in spotlighting movies and TV shows by, with and for Hispanics.
If you’d like to join, but can’t think of a topic or topics here are a few lists to get you started:
Latinos in Film from Wikipedia
THE RULES!
- I will not limit multiple posts about the same actor, film or subject since everyone’s take is different. I hope for originality, however, and unique topics will get an extra smile from me.
- I am also open to commentaries on all eras of film and television about Hispanic themes and players.
- Please enter your topic of choice in the comments section of this post. This announcement will serve as the base for topic submissions. Now that we have such a variety of social media platforms it’s easy to lose track. Including your blog’s title would be most helpful to ensure I get them all correct. A link is even better!
- All entries should be previously unpublished and can be blog posts, videos, interviews, pictorials, podcasts or anything that you enjoy.
- Please include links to this blogathon and the event banner in your entry. I guess this is where I should apologize for the one, plain banner available, but I like to keep things simple. Not to mention I have limited artistic capabilities with technology. That said, what counts are your words and posts.
- Your entries should be published by October 15, the final day of Hispanic Heritage Month – when I will promote all entries. You can post the direct links in the comments section or email me at citizenscreenclassics at gmail.com
- Any and all promotion of this event would be greatly appreciated.
- If you tweet using the #DePelicula tag throughout Hispanic Heritage Month I will share your posts across platforms to spread the word. I’ve noted my social media accounts at the end of this post.
Gracias, amigos!

HI Patricia!
I guess I’m getting the jump on this blogathon :-). I’d love to participate in this important event. I’d love to do my post on the Hispanic silent film actress Beatriz Michelena in the early silent Salomy Jane (1914).
I’ll be doing my post fairly early in the blogathon (on September 24). You mention in the instructions to send the post to you. How would you like us to do that? Should we send the link via email to you (and if so, what is your email address) or should we post the link here in the comments section? I’m not quite clear on that.

Not terribly original, I know, but I’ve never written about her in depth, so what the heck: Rita Hayworth.
You got her! 🙂 Thrilled you’re joining me, Rich.

Hi. Ok. Someone else already chose Spanish Dracula, but I didn’t specify no repeats so that works. I’ll add you to the list a bit later. Thanks for taking part.
Wonder if John Landis’ “¡Three Amigos!” would qualify?
Sure!
Then put me down for it. Like I always say, Hay muchos que se pueden llamarse “guapos” pero hay solo uno “El Guapo!”
Hi Aurora, I just uploaded my post on Dolores del Río:
