The world lost Gary Cooper on this day in 1961 and we remember him with a Follies tribute…
“Until I came along all the leading men were handsome, but luckily they wrote a lot of stories about the fellow next door.”
I’ve never lived next door to anyone who looked like Coop!
If you like these images you might want to see Gary Cooper in action in his early films at this year’s Capitolfest, which runs from August 12th through the 14th in Rome, NY. Cooper is the featured star for the entire weekend! I’ll be sharing a lot more about the festival on this blog before August comes around, but there’s still time for you to buy tickets and make lodging arrangements. Trust me, don’t miss this if you can help it.
That man was delicious, and always gave the impression he didn’t know it.
I loved his stylish non-style, and Ball of Fire and High Noon are two of my favorite flicks. I just wish I didn’t know he was quite conservative during the HUAC era.
Sooo gorgeous! I think he’s the only classic actor who could give Gregory Peck a run for his money. They’re both tall, lanky and utterly beautiful! Both are good actors too, I need to see more of Coop’s earlier films!
Great pics! I love to see photos new to me, and you had quite a few!
Love Coop in High Noon,The Hanging Tree, The Wreck of the Mary Deare,Garden of Evil.
My namesake, or so I was told by my mother. And she should know!
Yeah, I wouldn’t mind a neighbour that looks like him! And I love the story that he was discovered because Goldwyn’s secretary had a crush on him – we how her a lot 😉
Yes and YES! 🙂
