Remembering Madeline Kahn

“Actually, I hold a degree in speech therapy. I was going to get my doctorate but acting got in the way. Pity, I always thought I’d like to do something dignified.”

I never met Madeline Kahn but I imagine she would have been a great speech therapist.  I can’t express how happy I am, however, that acting did get in her way.  A wonderfully funny and unique comedic actress, Kahn was unforgettable in every scene I ever saw her in.  Whether on television or in movies, her oft-outrageous parts took on a life of their own.  She was never an average Jane.  An incredible talent, Madeline Kahn would have celebrated a birthday today.  She went far too soon in 1999 at the age of 57.  She is missed and this is in her honor.

In character:

In action:

Mel Brooks is sensual with me. He treats me like an uncle. A dirty uncle.”

As Lili Von Schtupp in Mel Brooks’, Blazing Saddles, 1974 (doing her best Dietrich)

As Elizabeth in Mel Brooks’, Young Frankenstein, 1974

“Oh, sweet mystery of life at last I found you.”

In fond remembrance of the great, Madeline Kahn.
