She’s had a seven decades-long career appearing in her first credited role in David Butler’s THE DAUGHTER OF ROSIE O’GRADY in 1950. That’s seven decades entertaining audiences across the globe SO FAR! For her efforts, longevity and talent Mary Frances Reynolds or Debbie, as we know her has been selected to receive the 2014 Life Achievement Award at the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards scheduled to air live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. You might want to begin the Debbie Reynolds celebration on January 22 at 8 PM EST, however, so mark your calendar or set your DVR. That’s when Turner sister network TCM will feature a 5-film tribute to commemorate Reynolds’ SAG honor. The TCM’s line-up will be…
Kelly’s/Donen’s SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (1952)
Richard Brooks’ THE CATERED AFFAIR (1956)
George Marshall’s THE MATING GAME (1959)
Charles Walters’ THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN (1964)
Mervyn LeRoy’s MARY, MARY (1963)
The Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award is the highest honor the union can bestow upon a member and takes into account both the career and humanitarian accomplishments of the honorees who exemplify the “finest ideals of the acting profession.” Needless to say Debbie Reynolds is a fantastic choice, a long overdue choice for this honor. She is also one of the silver screen’s most beloved and talented stars. Ms. Reynolds often portrayed innocent girl-next-door types, but her vivacious personality makes her one of Hollywood’s truly great dames as well! I offer this heartfelt if simple entry to show my appreciation. And I’m putting this out there in hopes…LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT TCMFF 2015 DEBBIE REYNOLDS!
